Our pine cones arrived. Gay in Saskatchewan sent them to us, in Ontario. We have spruce cones but cannot find out for sure if they are safe. Gay sent us these so I could rest easy knowing I had safe cones for my three. These are called bull cones.  Thank you Gay, as you will see, they are very much appreciated.

The Basic Recipe
Pine cones
Seed mix (small seeds work best)
Honey (if unpasteurized be sure to boil 3-5 mintes before using.) Boiling also helps to remove some of the moisture and make it thicker.
corn meal
Egg whites - well beaten
I do not have any exact measurements. It is trial and error to make the mixture sticky enough.. Add honey slowly then mix. If not sticky enough add more. The corn meal really helps to hold the mixture together.

Katie is checking the cones to make sure each is perfect.                                      This one is fine, drop it and move on to the next.

After the cones are prepared and you
have the mixture the consistency you want
stuff the seed mixture into the cones packing
as tight as you can.
You can see this takes great concentration..:-)
